About

My name is Matt Coddington, and I am a 22 year old web developer from Columbia, South Carolina where I am attending the University of South Carolina. I have been doing web design and development for over 7 years now but only really began making it full time income in early 2006.

MeI started doing web design when I was 15. All of my friends had little websites for this and that, so I wanted one too. At the time I was big into StarCraft, and I played it day and night. I figured I might as well set up a website dedicated to StarCraft - but I eventually expanded it to all Blizzard games. Since I was 15 with no money (what little money I did have was going into getting a car) I had to do everything myself, from the design to the coding. The site got fairly popular generating about 1 million hits per month but only a couple thousand uniques per day. There was a lot of downloading going on - game replays mostly. Little came of the site, however, since when I went to college I didn’t have the motivation to keep it up. I ended up selling it for only $300 since I had no clue how to monetize the site at all. Looking back that was one of (the many) dumbest decisions I’ve ever made.

After spending a couple years completely ignoring the web while I was in college I got back into design and started doing client work. This generated enough part-time income to keep me satisfied, but when I started finishing up my Junior year I began to put more thought into doing web work full-time which is what I’m doing now.

I earn the bulk of my income from local design/development work, but I do a lot of online work as well. I have also done a lot of affiliate marketing, arbitrage, domaining, and building niche minisites in the past. All of those were really too tedious and boring for me though, so I always fell back on design. Eventually I’d like to move into full-time blogging/webmastering.
